The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, a famous national monument, erected in memory of Chiang Kai-shek, the first President of the Republic of China. The monument is flanked on the north and south by the National Theater and National Concert Hall. The huge courtyard in front of the memorial serves as a place for both national celebrations as well as a platform to voice one’s disapproval of the government.

My Bulgarian friend now working in Taipei, the 1st time I met him a year ago in his home city, Sofia, Bulgaria. The world is really smaller than we think.

Garden of the Generalissimos: In 2000, it was estimated there were nearly 43,000 Chiang Kai-shek (CKS) statues in various locations throughout Taiwan. There is a movement to remove all statues of CSK to avoid the annual vandalism of statues during anniversary of the 228 Incident and to lift the symbols of autocratic rule in Taiwan. Cihu in Daxi District, home to the mausoleums of CKS and his son, has accepted approximately 200 removed CKS statues.

Daxi (Hoping) Old Street in Taoyuan City was built during the Japanese rule of Taiwan, the street used to be the bustling hub for camphor and tea trades.

The Best Beef Noodle Soup i ever had. In Taiwan, it is sometimes considered a national dish and every year Taipei holds an annual Beef Noodle Festival, where various chefs and restaurants compete for the title of the “best beef noodles in Taiwan”.

Taiwan Beer is the only local beer i could find in Taipei, I guess I was not looking harder.

There was some kind of local religious procession in the area I was wandering around, couldn’t get the name of the festival.

Railways, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. Taipei City has a very clean, efficient and safe public transport system, both Mass Rapid Transit system and buses display information (destination and the names of stops) in English.

After few days in the capital city and visiting LaLaShan for a day trip, I took a train to Hualein, a city on the east coast of Taiwan.
