Year Visited: 2016 – October

During Chinese National Day Holidays of 2016, I took some additional days off and caught a flight to Rome for two weeks long road trip across Italy, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City. After over a week of visiting Pisa, Florence, Cinque Terre, Monaco and San Marino, I dropped my friend in Rome for back to her work, and I continue driving South towards Positano, a picturesque cliffside village on Amalfi Coast.

The Amalfi Coast is a stunning beauty with its steep sloped lemon tree gardens, colored terrace houses, stunning views and azure sea. The Amalfi Coast is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its extraordinary beauty and its iconic medieval cliff-side Mediterranean fishing villages.

Main purpose of this trip was to experience driving on the World famous Amalfi Coast, stopping every few kilometer and enjoying magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea. There are many villages on The Amalfi Coast, I drove up to Positano, the most picturesque hence popular village on the Amalfi Coast.

Once a little more than a humble fishing village, Positano on Amalfi Coast ranked as Europe’s most expensive summer destination for accommodation. Positano is a vertical town where instead of roads visitors explore along steep flights of steps.

Driving on the World famous Amalfi Coast, one more thing checked from my bucket list.
The Amalfi Coast is a 50-kilometer stretch of coastline along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula. It is one of most beautiful drive in the world with sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small beaches and pastel-colored fishing villages. winding past grand villas, terraced vineyards and cliff-side lemon groves. The Amalfi Coast is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
Strada Statale Amalfitana (S S 163), official name of the Amalfi Coastal road, one of the best coastal drives in the world.

Italian Lemon Ice, every few hundred meters, at every curve of the Amalfi Coast road, you will find a fruit stand selling fresh juice and the most popular Granita di Limone (Lemon Ice)
The first site of Positano, the most picturesque village on the Amalfi Coast.
Positano, the most picturesque village on the Amalfi Coast. The majolica tiled dome of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta can be seen from every corner of the town. A Byzantine inspired Icon of a black Madonna, dating back to the 18th century, is conserved inside the church.

Few love locks on the Amalfi Coast.
Spiaggia Grande (the “large beach”) is the main beach of Positano. With 300 meters long, the beach is one of the largest on the Amalfi Coast, and one of the most glamorous too.
At every street corner you will find shop selling Limoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in Southern Italy.
One of the MUST thing to do While in the Amalfi Coast, drinking locally produced Limoncello, an Italian lemon liqueur.
My very reliable rental car during road-trip across Italy, Monaco and San Marino.

After a most scenic drive to Positano on the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site, I drove to Rome, the capital city of Italy with almost 3000 years of history.
