Destination 》Asia 》Central Asia 》Uzbekistan
Year Visited: 2019 – September
Uzbekistan was the last country during my three months backpacking trip across the Central Asia. Uzbekistan, a former Soviet Republic, is a country with rich cultural and architectural heritage. It is a home to ancient mosques, dazzling minarets and medieval-style Islamic monuments. Uzbekistan was a heart of ancient Silk Road. Uzbekistan has Central Asia‘s most important historical cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, which are under protection of UNESCO World Heritage.
The country is easily accessible by public transportation, If you are arriving from Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan, you will notice a huge improvement on public transportation system, like a day-n-night difference. You will also notice a mass-tourism is very well developed in the country.
Uzbekistan, along with Liechtenstein make up the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world.
Samarkand was my first stop in Uzbekistan, I took a shared taxi from Panjakent, Tajikistan to the border of Uzbekistan and from the border took another shared taxi to the Registan in Samarkand. It took less than two hours of total travel time, including time at the borders for immigration and customs.
Below are some places I explored during my three plus weeks in Uzbekistan. Click on any cities to view my travel photos and stories.
Ferghana was the last stop on my 3+ months travel through Central Asia. Next stop was India, It is going to be a Diwali Festival during October, 2019. Looking forward to Diwali goodies, some home cooked sweets an snacks.
