Destination 》Asia 》Central Asia 》Kazakhstan
Year visited: 2019 – July/August
Kazakhstan, a former Soviet Republic, is the largest country in Central Asia. This beautiful country was first stop in my 2019 trip through the four “Stans.” I arrived in the capital city Nur-Sultan, formerly know as Astana, after having most amazing time during Naadam, the Mongolian National Festival.
Kazakhstan is the richest country in the region due to its large oil and natural gas reserves. The country is easily accessible by public transportation, and the local people are incredibly warm and friendly. The two largest cities––Nur-Sultan and Almaty, are very modern and quite well developed. At the time of my visit, most foreigners could enter either Visa-Free or Visa-on-Arrival.
Since 2017, after my early retirement, my travelling style typically involves not making any detailed plans or itineraries. Sometimes, I enter a city without a plan for where I might stay each night. Below are some places I explored during my three weeks in Kazakhstan. Click on any cities to view my travel photos and stories.
After three plus weeks in this wonderful country, it was time to say good bye and move to next country in Central Asia. Took a direct Marshrutka from Almaty to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
