Destination 》Europe 》Western Europe 》Belgium
Year Visited: 2005
I visited Belgium few times for business trips between 1998 and 2005. These were short, one or two weeks trips, so I had time only in the evening after work or over the weekends to walk around its historic towns. Before arrival of digital camera, I didn’t took any pictures during my trips to Belgium. All pictures in this post are from my couple of trips during 2005.
Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a country in Western Europe, bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, and France. Belgium is world-famous for its chocolate, waffles, and beer. It is known for medieval towns, Renaissance architecture, and as headquarters of the European Union and NATO.
The country as it exists today was established following the 1830 Belgian Revolution, when it seceded from the Netherlands, which had itself only existed since 1815. Since the Middle Ages, its central location near several major rivers has meant that the area has been relatively prosperous, connected commercially and politically to its bigger neighbors.
My work took me few times to Brussels and Ghent, both very beautiful cities with historic city centers. During couple of visits to Ghent, I also took a train to Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage City.

After most trips to Belgium, I flew back to home in Dallas; other than in 2001, we drove to the Netherlands before flying back to Dallas and in Jul 2005, I went to Ireland for a weekend stop-over before flying to Dallas.
