Year Visited: 2001 – Jul
I visited Curaçao during 4th of July week of 2001. As this was a family vacation in the Marriott Resort, most pictures below are of my boys in the resort. Also, one day we rented a car and drove around this small island country.
Curaçao (Papiamento: Kòrsou) is a Lesser Antilles island country in the southern Caribbean Sea and the Dutch West Indies, about 65 km (40 mi) north of the Venezuelan coast.
Curaçao was settled by Arawak people from the South American mainland. It was first visited by Europeans in 1499 and was settled by the Spanish and, later, by the Dutch, who established it as a major center of trade for the Dutch West India Company. The Spanish deported the entire indigenous population as slaves to Hispaniola in 1515.
In 1845 Curaçao was one of the six Dutch dependencies in the West Indies that were brought under collective administration. Those dependencies were reorganized as the Netherlands Antilles in 1954. When we visited this Island in 2001, it was part of the Netherlands Antilles. In 2006 the people of Curaçao, along with those of the other islands and the Dutch government, agreed to dissolve the Netherlands Antilles. On October 10, 2010, Curaçao became countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The city center of Willemstad, the capital city, with its unique architecture and harbor entry, has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Pictures below are from five days stay on this beautiful island. These pictures are of really bad quality but I still wanted to post here as my memories.

After a week on the island, I few back to Dallas, my home at that time.
