Year Visited: 2016 – October
During Chinese National Day Holidays of 2016, I took some additional days off and caught a flight to Rome for two weeks long road trip across Italy, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City. After few days in Pisa and Florence, we drove to La Spezia and took a train to visit Cinque Terre, a string of centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline.
Each of the five villages has colorful houses and vineyards cling to steep terraces, their harbors are filled with fishing boats. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
As we had a limited time we took a train from La Spezia to Vernazza, the most beautiful village of the Cinque Terre, with rugged Ligurian coast. Colorful houses surround its small marina. The village has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest “fishing villages” on the Italian Riviera. It is the only natural port of Cinque Terre and is famous for its elegant houses.

After visiting Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we drove to Monaco, a sovereign city-state, country, and microstate on the French Riviera.
