Year Visited: 2009 – December

The Czech Republic, also known by its short-form name, Czechia, is a landlocked country, nestled in the Central Europe, It is a country steeped in history, inhabited for thousands of years and is a land dotted with castles, medieval towns, beautiful mountains, ancient ruins, and world-class wineries.

Over thousand years of history, since the first settlement on the territory by the Boii, a Celtic tribe, Czechia became part of many Empires including, Romans, Germanic Tribe, Slavic, Moravian Empire, the Bohemian Kingdom, Austrian Habsburg and Soviet Union. Following the 1948 communist coup d’etat, Czechoslovakia fell into the Soviet-led Eastern Bloc and became a puppet state of the Soviet Union. Finally, in 1989, during the peaceful Velvet Revolution, Czechoslovakia became a democratic republic, that followed by separation of Slovakia and Czech Republic on January 1, 1993, also known as the Velvet Divorce. The Czech flag is the same one formerly used by Czechoslovakia, originally adopted in 1920.

I visited the The Czech Republic during December of 2009, it was a short business trip, so spent almost all the time in the capital city of Prague, making only one day trip out of the capital to Kutna Hora.

Below are some places I explored during a week in the Czech Republic. Click on any City to view my travel photos and stories.

After a week in the Czech Republic, I took a flight back to Dallas, Texas, USA, my home town.
