Destination 》EuropeCentral and Eastern Europe  》Ukraine 》Rivne

Year Visited: 2018 – July

I visited Rivne during my five plus months backpacking journey across Central and Eastern Europe. After exploring Kyiv for few days, I took a Marshrutka to Rivne to meet my travel buddy whom I met in Belarus.

Rivne is a historic city in western Ukraine, 4 hours from Lviv. Rivne was first mentioned in 1283, since than Cossacks, Poles, Lithuanians, and Russians ruled over this beautiful city. The city has beautiful old churches but it is more popular for the Tunnel of Love.

Welcome to Rivne!
I know, it’s a cheesy photo.

Few pictures of Basiv Kut, a beautiful lake in the city of Riven, a good place to enjoy boating or picnicking with friends and family.

The Tunnel of Love (Туне́ль Коха́ння) is a section of industrial railway located in town of Klevan, near Rivne. The railway is surrounded by green arches and is three to five kilometers in length. This beautiful natural train tunnel is said to grant the wishes of visiting lovebirds.

If you ever visit this tunnel, make sure you use mosquito repellent and wear long pants and shirts as there are millions of mosquitoes.

After a night in Rivne, we took a bus to Lviv, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
