Durban

Stories and Photos from my travel to Surfers’ paradise and the largest ‘Indian’ city outside India.

Destination 》AfricaSouth Africa 》Durban

Year Visited: 2018 – Feb

I visited Durban for a day as a part of 21 days South Africa, Lesotho and eSwatini (formerly Swaziland) overland tour in a purpose built 4×4 truck, visiting one national park to another, covering eight major national parks. After exploring St Lucia for two nights we arrived in Durban, a coastal city known for its African, Indian and colonial influences. Durban is the third largest city in South Africa and the largest ‘Indian’ city outside India. Durban’s Golden Mile, a 3.7 mile stretch of sandy beach, invites surfers and swimmers to enjoy the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

We had only one night in this big city, so I spend most of the time at the beach, taking pictures of Surfers.

Sand Artists displaying their work on the Durban Beach.
A chilled Coke at the beach.
Indian Cuisine, Durban is the largest ‘Indian’ city outside India.
Sea-side vendors selling handicrafts, souvenirs and art work.
Three ladies performing some kind of religious ceremony at the ocean.

Durban is a paradise for Surfers and I enjoyed taking their pictures, hope you enjoy viewing these pictures too.

After spending a night in Durban, we drove to visit Ukuhlamba Drakensberg Park, a UNESCO recognized World Heritage site..
