Central Asia

Stories and Photos from my travels around “the Stans”.

Destination 》Asia 》Central Asia

Collectively known as “the Stans”, Central Asia has historically been a nexus of nomadic life and the Silk Road trade routes, This region has acted as a crossroads for the movement of people, goods, and ideas between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Below you can find my photos from travels to the former Soviet Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is a gorgeous country, well-endowed by large oil and natural gas reserves. The largest cities, Nur-Sultan and Almarty are quite modern and developed.

Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan has incredible natural beauty and proud nomadic traditions. Often known as the Switzerland of Central Asia, the entire country is dominated by the Tian Shan mountain range, with tall peaks, glaciers, and high-altitude lakes.

Tajikistan

Tajikistan is wild, rugged, remote, bound by pristine alpine lakes, golden plains and snow-capped peaks. It is a home to the world-famous and challenging Pamir Highway.

Uzbekistan

The heart of the ancient Silk Road, Uzbekistan is a country with a rich cultural and architectural heritage, home to ancient mosques, dazzling minarets, and medieval-style Islamic monuments..
