Day 3 on the Pamir Highway: From Murghab to Bulunkul

Murghab is a large settlement, so before we started to drive towards Bulunkul, we filled up gas, exchange to Tajik Somoni at the Bank, purchased Tajik SIM card.

Filling up the truck before leaving Murghab
Shared Taxi, look closely, the SUV is carrying a Goat on the rooftop.

A salt lake on the way to Bulunkul, we could not find name of this lake but decided to take lunch break at this beautiful place.
The place is so remote, we were the only people at this place.
Preparing Lunch, a sandwich and beer, at the No-Name salt lake.

Lake Bulunkul, we stayed overnight in that small village in the background

Bulunkul is a very small settlement near two lakes Bulunkul and Yashikul. The town has less than 20 dwellings, a very small shop and a bakery.

Our luxurious home-stay in Bulunkul, it had a satellite TV, bucket of hot water in bathroom (no shower) and western style toilet.
Lake Yashikul, a freshwater lake in The Pamir. This lake is an hour drive from Lake Bulunkul.

First flat tire, We had to change our plan, we couldn’t visit Wakhan Valley any more, we had to reach to a bigger town for repairing that flat tire.
Our home-stay in Bulunkul could receive TV shows from Afghanistan. We noticed blurs in the video because Muslim laws in Afghanistan doesn’t allow to show woman’s bare shoulders or legs.

Because of the flat tire, we had to change our original plan of visiting Wakhan Valley, instead decided to go Khorog so we can get the tire repaired. I will visit Wakhan Valley from Khorog by hitchhiking. The most rewarding experience during my entire backpacking trip.
