Year Visited: 2019 – August
I visited Toktogul during my three plus weeks backpacking across Kyrgyzstan. After hiking through the Ala-Archa National Park, it was a time to move towards Osh to ride on the Pamir highway. There was no public transport from Bishkek to Osh, my only option was to take a 15-hours long ride in a shared taxi. So, instead of going straight to Osh, I decided to break-up my journey and stay over night in beautiful town of Toktogul.
Toktogul is a town half-way between Bishkek and Osh. The town is surrounded entirely by dramatic Tian Shan mountains and is near to the beautiful Toktogul Reservoir on the Naryn River. My home-stay arranged a taxi to visit the reservoir, a must do thing if you are in the town.
I spent only one night in the town, but if you have a time you could stay few days to relax and hike/explore surrounding mountains. If you are driving towards Osh, you can pullover your vehicle at many spots on the way, the view of the Naryn River is unbelievably beautiful.
Pictures below are from a wonderful evening and amazing sunset at the Toktogul Reservoir.

After spending a wonderful evening at the Toktogul Reservoir, I took early morning marshrutka to Osh, I didn’t know at that time that a pleasant surprise was waiting for me!
